Welcome to Gateways Therapy Centre
![]() |
Gateways therapy centre is a not-for-profit or “Community Interest Company” set up to help children with disabilities and emotional or social challenges including but not limited to those on the autistic spectrum and support their families. |
Gateways are a small family based centre on Exmoor. There are 2 full time members of staff and 3 part time staff. Between us we have many years of experience working with children including those with Adhd, Autistic Spectrum Disorders and Complex Health Needs.
We offer opportunities in experiential and reflective learning as a therapeutic approach to; reducing stress, anxiety & anger, increasing self esteem and improving social skills. Using a combination of our Equine facilitated sensory integration programme alongside a variety of complementary therapies primarily Reiki as a medium to facilitate lasting changes in behaviour and learning.
Children visiting the centre can choose from several activities each session giving them as many opportunities as possible to make positive choices that encourage self expression and awareness as a non invasive and natural alternative to stress, anxiety, anger, low self esteem and other behavioural challenges.
A typical full day may involve a short session of Reiki or breathing and visualization techniques; some art, music or reflective play therapy; a free choice session using our sensory integration play equipment followed by an outdoor activity which could involve exploring nature in the woods, or working with the ponies in the stables or round pen.
Although our programme will provide opportunities for change at any age, for optimum results in communication and social skills early intervention is important and with this in mind we can accept children from as young as age 2 with or without a formal diagnosis.
At Gateways we believe in working holistically with each child and can provide a range of therapies designed to enhance their physical, emotional, social & spiritual wellbeing.
We can accommodate children from age two, including those with Autistic spectrum disorders, physical disabilities and complex medical needs where they can stay in a calm, structured environment, spend time in the play or sensory room or visit our cuddly Donkeys and friendly Ponies.
For those parents eligible for carer’s breaks this service can be accessed through your key worker or through Direct Payments.
