The Reflections Club

The Reflections club is aimed at children age 8 – 12 including those with Adhd, Asperger’s, and other emotional, social and mental health issues.

Circle time

Each day begins and ends with circle time where the children have the opportunity to catch up with friends, discuss any problems, learn some breathing exercises to reduce stress and encourage calm, take part in creative story telling and circle games designed to increase self esteem.

At the end of each day the children have the opportunity to reflect back to each other how the day went for them the highs and the lows.

The children are responsible for the overall behaviour of the group and any child who continually disrupts the group is answerable to their peers who ultimately decide on the outcome.

Art and Craft

There is an art & craft activity each day which the children can dip in and out of as they wish, with a wide range of materials including clay, paint, crayons, puppet making, collage etc.

Outdoor activities

The majority of the day is spent outdoors burning off any excess energy, learning about nature, pond dipping, bird watching, climbing, swinging, water, sand play, trampoline etc. Most of the activities and games encourage balance and coordination along with team work.

The Labyrinth

During the summer months the children are able to walk the labyrinth.

When journeying in on the labyrinth the children must focus on the path, but as there are no choices over which direction to take and only one path to follow the left logical side of the brain will take a back seat as the right side of the brain responsible for the intuitive and emotional responses will be activated.

The twists and turns within the labyrinth reflect the inner body, the surface of the brain, the ear and the intestines, walking the labyrinth reminds us of the safety and security of the womb and will become almost a walking meditation.

Children may be allocated a 1 hour slot of basic pony handling, riding or driving each day (weather permitting) there is no extra charge for this but it may be used as part of a behaviour management programme where it has to be earned.

Many parents can access Direct Payments through the fair access to carer’s breaks scheme which can be used to fund the full cost of each day.
